“Mini Transat” Race : La Rochelle – West Indies
The “mini transat” has been since the 80’s the springboard for many notorious skippers who wanted to race singlehanded at a professional level. Michel Desjoyeaux, Thomas Coville, Loick Peyron, Ellen McArthur, Halvard Mabire; all worked their way up to the Vendée globe and gained international recognition thanks to this race. Today, 80 Professional and amateur offshore sailors’ race singlehanded on 6.5 meter boats – The size of a big car - across the Atlantic without any form of assistance nor any communication with land. Due to the smallness of their size compared to their power, “Minis” are mighty racing machines that are quite tricky to drive…
In order to insure that both skipper and boat are ready to reach unaided and unharmed the other side of the Atlantic, more than 10,000 kilometers worth of qualification races are to be completed in Europe before the transatlantic race departs in October 2019.
Our skipper, Jean Barque, strives to become one of the few who were able to nurture the project and complete the race. The 2 year long preparation already started. Ranging from sailing, physical and mental training, to boat maintenance and optimization, Jean has to perform the work of sailor, boat builder, project manager, Athlete and fundraiser all at the same time. But Jean is not alone! Sharing the story among the partners is also one of the greatest goals of Jean’s project, through values of performance, reliability, team spirit and a great desire to succeed in the biggest challenge he has set himself yet.
That is why Eiger International, whose core values include passion and team spirit, is proud to support Jean and share a part of the challenge !
