Legal council, leading Algerian Telco
Client
With 2 B€ revenues and 5000 staff, our client is a leading wireless telecom operator in North Africa, in a difficult market and political environment, owned by a large multinational telecom player. Following the arrival a new Chief Executive Officer, we have been mandated to recruit several CXO positions.
Role
Member of the executive committee and reporting directly to the CEO, the position covers all legal (except regulatory) matters including contracts (customers and suppliers), real estate (particularly the network sites), corporate as well as social law. Specific objectives for the roles are (i) To reform the legal department to make it a strong business partner for the CEO, the management team as well as the group corporate legal department, (ii) to take ownership of the current legal issues and manage the priorities effectively, to unclutter the backlog of unresolved legal issues and (iii) To play a personal active and business oriented role in the executive team.
Candidates
Given the business size of the company and challenging objectives of the role, we needed candidates with a strong legal background and academic education (French and International law) earned in International firms and/or industry legal departments, (ii) Leadership experience in international environments and fluency in French and English. Candidates are expected to be based in any French speaking region (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, North & West Africa…). Women were preferred for the role.
Outcome
We recruited a seasoned legal council, who had worked 5 years with a large telecom operator in North Africa. She understood extremely well both the local cultural environment and the specifics of telecommunications. Despite the difficult market and political environment, all candidate presented on the shortlist were female.
